The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said that issues concerning the Integrated Payroll and Personal Information System (IPPIS), and the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS, have been resolved.

This was one of the major issues that led to the lingering strike by the academic union.

And as the government meets with the Union today, Tuesday, ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke said he hopes the lecturers would go back to classes after today’s(Tuesday) meeting.

Osodoke made this known during an interview with Channels Television.

He further highlighted how the government has not done enough to end the ongoing strike.

He said: “The issue of IPPIS and UTAS has been put to rest. If the government agrees with us tomorrow, everything will be resolved,” he said.

“The issues of IPPIS and UTAS have been put to rest as agreed with the Chief of Staff, the UTAS will be implemented.

“You see, if this government is serious, this strike will not last more than two weeks. The President directed the Minister of Education to finish within two weeks, now two weeks have passed and they didn’t come back,” he added.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is scheduled to meet with Federal Government representatives on Tuesday over its prolonged strike.

President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, who disclosed this said the meeting is about the issue of renegotiation’

He said: “The renegotiation of the 2009 agreement. It’s not just about wages. It has to do with the system, funding, the structure, the autonomy and other issues and how to fund universities.”

“The government has reduced it to just salaries alone. But if they had looked at the whole agreement and implemented it, we would not be talking about funding.”

Osodeke also suggested that if Tuesday’s meeting goes well, the strike action may be called off.

“We are willing to sign,” he added.

DAILY GIST reported that ASUU had commenced nationwide strike on February 14th 2022, citing different demands which the FG had failed to meet as its reasons.

Some of the demands include, payments of salary arrears, better working conditions, renegotiation of the 2009 FG-ASUU agreement, payment of earned academic allowances, funds for the revitalization of public universities, promotion arrears, and poor funding of state universities.

Other tertiary institution unions also on strike include the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
