The House of Representatives has clarified that there is no plan to scrap the the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
The house of Reps on youth , Yemi Adaramodu, disclosed this in Abuja at the official unveiling of nine books on NYSC and maiden NYSC film in commemoration of the 48th anniversary of the scheme.
According to him, the NYSC is the most successful national programme for fostering Nigeria’s unity.
DAILY GIST reports that The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Alteration Bill, 2020, which is seeking to repeal the NYSC Act, is billed for the second reading in the house of representatives which some feel has outlived its usefulness.
The sponsor of the bill, Mr Awaji-Inombek Abiante, in the explanatory memorandum of the proposal, listed the various reasons why the NYSC should be scrapped
But Adaramodu in a statement said: “Anybody is free to sponsor a bill, but the speaker and the rest of the house believe that the scheme has come to stay in Nigeria.
“The scheme is going nowhere and it is not the plan of the National Assembly to scrap it. I want to let you know that we’re with you and for you. We’re fully with you, we’re together.”
