The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has proposed N709,000 as the new minimum wage for civil servants in the country.

The union disclosed this on Thursday at its congress on minimum wage in Abuja.

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) on the other hand proposed N447, 000 for consideration as the new minimum wage.

The two labour unions said their figures were largely influenced by the present realities.

DAILY GIST reports that the South-West geopolitical zone of the organised labour union proposed N794,000 as the minimum wage

However, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Niger failed to propose any figure to pay their workers.

It was gathered that only Plateau state proposed N81,000 for consideration as the new national minimum.

Recall that the Lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Wednesday had proposed at least N100,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

This house also set up an ad-hoc committee to look into modalities for the payment of a decent living wage to workers.

This followed the adoption of a motion jointly sponsored by 40 members of the House.
