The Abolongo Correctional Centre in Oyo town in Oyo State has been attacked by some unknown gunmen at the late hours of Friday.
According to reports, the gunmen attacked the facility with explosives around 10.30pm and set the inmates free.
The incident which happened was said to have led to the escape of inmates of the faculty
Sources said the police and other security agencies were quickly contacted immediately the attack occured and armed security agents have since been searching for the fleeing inmates.
The Public Relations Officer of the Correctional Services in Oyo State, Mr Lanre Anjonrin, confirmed the attack in an interview with our correspondent.
He said, ” Yes, it is true that Abolongo Custodian Centre in Oyo town was attacked. I am there right now and the comptroller is also here.
“We are assessing the level of damage done to the facility and.we want to know how many inmates have escaped.”
