The Alapere overhead bridge in Lagos State has collapsed, affecting the outbound lane of the 3rd Mainland Bridge and causing traffic gridlock on Friday.
It was gathered that the overhead bridge was destroyed by a trailer carrying a container.
The truck according to report collided with the pedestrian bridge at Alapere Estate.
This was according to a video posted by an X user simply identified as Umar-Farouq Ogbe, around midnight on Friday.
However, it was learnt that, some residents and responders who have been there all night have been able to partially open the road to traffic and are making efforts to move the truck.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes out of Lagos in the meantime.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofeek, confirmed the incident on Friday.
He said, “Yes, information reaching me is that a truck loaded with metal and was too high got stuck under the bridge, leading to the collapse of the bridge, with the debris causing serious gridlock at the Ketu-Alapere axis of Lagos State, inward Berger.”
