The niger state governor, Abubakar Sani-Bello on Thursday has shut down all government owned secondary schools in the state for two weeks.

DAILY GIST gathered that the closure is to find a lasting solution to incessant kidnapping and abduction of students in public schools.

The decision was reached after an interface meeting between the Niger government and officials from various security agencies in the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu in the disclosed this on Thursday.

She said the closure will take effect from Friday, March 12th to Friday, March 26th, 2021.

It would be recalled that bandits had in February attacked a school in Kagara where 27 students and 3 staff members of the school were reportedly kidnapped

Unfortunately, one of the students, Benjamin Doma was gunned down while trying to escape during the attack. The abductors reportedly left him behind in the pool of his blood as they shepherded the students and teachers to the bush.

The students and the staff members however was released after the state government reportedly negotiate with the bandits. Though DAILY GIST could not ascertained if any ransom was paid for their release.
