The federal government has broken its silence on the possible extradition of the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari to United States.

The reaction is coming following his alleged Involvement in wire fraud with the notorious fraudster, Ramon Abass popularly known as Hushpuppi.

The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami reacted in an interview with VOA

Malami disclosed that although there is a bilateral agreement between Nigeria and the US, there are guidelines to be followed for the possible extradition of the embattled DCP.

Recall Kyari in recent weeks made the headlines of Nigerian Newspapers after a US court ordered his arrest over his alleged involvement with Hushpuppi who has pleaded guilty to fraud allegations levelled against him in U.S Court.

Malami however noted the decision to extradite Mr Kyari will be decided by the courts.

In his words, Malami said; ”Yes, we have bilateral agreement between Nigeria and USA on extraditing anyone who commits any offence in any of the countries, be it Nigeria or the the the United States but there are guidelines and the guidelines are when the country writes a letter to the foreign affairs ministry, and the foreign affairs will send to the minister of justice…so the court will permit the extradition of anyone to go and answer some questions in United states based on the allegations.

“I am not saying Abba Kyari will be extradited but the law will be followed judiciously before taking any action,” the Nigerian chief law officer said.

DAILY GIST reports how Mr Abbas bribed Mr Kyari to arrest one of his fellow fraudsters and throw him in jail following a dispute presumably over proceeds of their crime.

The FBI had said Abbas and Kyari have been friends and were both involved in a conspiracy to launder money

Mr Kyari was indicted of receiving bribes from Mr Abbas to arrest a fellow fraudster in Nigeria.

Judge Wright’s permission for the FBI to arrest Mr Kyari and hold him in U.S. custody was unsealed on July 26.
