BREAKING: FG Orders VCs To Reopen Varsities For Academic Activities

The Nigerian government on Monday through the National Universities Commission has ordered vice-chancellors to re-open schools for resumption of academic activities.

The was contained in a statement issued by the Director, Finance and Accounts of the NUC, Sam Onazi, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Abubakar Rasheed.

The statement was addressed to all vice-chancellors; Pro-Chancellors and chairmen of governing councils of federal universities.

It reads in part: “Ensure that ASUU members immediately resume/commence lectures; Restore the daily activities and routines of the various University campuses”

This coming after the industrial court of Nigeria had ordered the striking lecturers to call of thier strike.

But ASUU had filed the ruling at the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja.

The notice of appeal was issued by Abubakar Marshal, a lawyer in the Falana & Falana Chambers, the appellant’s lawyer

ASUU had been on strike since February 14 to press home the demand for improved funding for universities, a review of salaries for lecturers, replacement of UTAS with IPPIS among other issues.
