BREAKING: Female Ibadan Polytechnic Student Shot On Campus(Video)

A female student of The Polytechnic Ibadan has been reportedly shot on campus raising serious anxiety among students.

Although the identity of the shooter was not revealed by the management, DAILY GIST reliably gathered from sources on campus that a personnel of the Polytechnic, Ibadan security department allegedly shot the student within the campus premises.

The student is identified to be Babatunde Taibat, an ND 1 student of Science Laboratory Technology department of the institution, DAILY GIST reliably gathered

Information made available to DAILY GIST on Wednesday revealed that the security men had stormed the SEWAGE HALL of the institution to arrest a recalcitrant student, but the security men later started shooting which led to Taibat receiving a stray bullet.

Although the institution spokeperson denied any involvement of the security personnel in the ugly incident, noting that the shooter is yet to be identified.

However, the Students’ Union President, Com. Adedeji Adedamola Abdulazeez, said everything is being done to ensure that Taibat receives proper care but said he can’t give explicit information on the incident as at the moment.

According to a statement issued by the management, a copy of which was made available to DAILY GIST, the student has been rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan where she is currently receiving treatment.

It was gathered that she is still responding to treatment as at the time of filing this report.

Registrar of the institution, Mrs. Modupe Fawale confirmed the incident on Wednesday

Fawale, in her reaction, urged the students to remain calm and vigilant.

She appealed to them to report suspicious activities to the Students Affairs office and other arms of the authority for necessary action.

The statement reads; “The Authorities of The Polytechnic, Ibadan (TPI) have appealed to the students of the Institution to remain calm as a female student that was shot is responding to treatment at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan,” she said.

“The unfortunate incident happened at the sewage area late in the afternoon where a gunshot hit the female student.

“The female student was immediately rushed to the University College Hospital where a first class medical attention was given to her.

“We appeal to all students and staff to remain calm and abide with all the regulations as investigations have been launched into the source of the gunshot”
