The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially expelled former Kaduna State governor Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, declaring him ineligible to participate in any of the party’s activities for the next 30 years.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the SDP accused El-Rufai of alleged impersonation, forgery, and attempts to destabilise the party at multiple levels.
The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) said its decision followed thorough investigations into El-Rufai’s alleged claims of being an SDP member.
The statement noted that El-Rufai had falsely presented himself as a member of the party on social media, prompting congratulatory messages from party leaders and a letter of support by the National Publicity Secretary.
However, further checks revealed that he had not registered with his ward in Kaduna as required by party rules.
According to the SDP, El-Rufai allegedly forged documents and assigned himself as “number 001” in the party register of Unguwar Sarki Ward in Kaduna North Local Government, a move the party described as fraudulent and contrary to existing records.
The party further accused the former governor of seeking photo opportunities with suspended SDP National Chairman Shehu Musa Gabam and other party leaders to lend credibility to his false claims.
The NWC also condemned what it called El-Rufai’s pattern of “indiscipline,” accusing him of attempting to drag the SDP into a political alliance through the back door while reportedly declaring for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“In view of the undeniable fact of having publicly declared for the ADC and his confirmed acts towards dishonestly dragging the SDP into their so-called coalition… Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai is hereby banished and banned from applying to the membership… for a period of 30 years,” the statement reads.
