Officials of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) have arrested wife of Kano state governor, Abdullah Ganduje over bribery and fraud related offences.
The arrest, DAILY GIST learnt is coming weeks after her failure to honour the anti-graft agency’s invitation.
EFCC had invited Hafsat Ganduje for questioning to it’s headquarters on September 13 in Abuja, but she failed to honour the invitation.
She was arrested based on a petition Abdulazeez, one of her sons, wrote against her
In his petition, Abdulazeez, the governor’s son, had said he was approached by a property developer to facilitate the acquisition of some plots of land in Kano with some hundreds of thousands of US dollars as commission.
He said three months later, the property developer discovered that the plots of land he paid for had been allocated to other buyers and he requested for refund.
Abdulazeez said the mother refused to honour the request, straining the relationship between him and the developer.
Abdulazeez dragged his mum to the anti-graft agency, suggesting a pattern of corruptly using family access to power for private enrichment.
He was said to have fled abroad after filing the petition which was widely reported in the media.
Mrs Ganduje has however regained her freedom from the custody of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), DAILY GIST learnt.
Recall that Ganduje, the Kano state governor, had previously been involved in a bribery and corruption-related offenses after a scandalous video was published appearing to show him pocketing vast wads of American dollars in what was said to be bribe payments from public works contractors.
Despite being caught in the tape, the governor debunked the video as “cloned” and threatened a sweeping lawsuit against its publisher.
