The Department of State Services (DSS) has said Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is now in its custody.
DSS disclosed that Emefiele is being investigated.
In the video obtained by DAILY GIST, Emefiele was seen coming down from a vehicle and stepping into an aircraft with officers holding handcuffs behind him.
The secret police on Saturday had said Emefiele was “currently” not in his custody.
However, in a statement on Saturday, Peter Afunanya, spokesman of the agency, confirmed that Emefiele is in detention
The statement reads: “The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.”
“The public, particularly the Media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this.”
Emefiele was suspended “sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy” according to a release by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
Tinubu also appointed Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Adamu Garba, a former presidential aspirant on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said that the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele, was with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before his arrest by the Department of State Services.
The outspoken Garba, who stated this in a post on his verified Twitter handle on Saturday.
“Godwin Emefiele is with the EFCC and not DSS,” Garba said while apparently reacting to an earlier statement by the DSS that denied knowledge of the whereabout of Emefiele.
While many of Garba’s followers dismissed his tweet as misleading, the anti-graft agency – EFCC is yet to respond to the claim as at the time of filling this report.
It was gathered that DSS, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and many financial regulatory agencies, both at home and abroad, have issues to grind with the embattled Emefiele.
