The Chicago State University (CSU) has released the academic records of President Bola Tinubu, following requests by Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the last elections.
DAILY GIST understands that Atiku is planning to transfer the evidence from Tinubu’s academic records to the Supreme Court for use in the ongoing election petition case.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election held on February 25th.
Not satisfied with the outcome of the poll, Atiku approached the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal but lost the legal battle to Tinubu.
Atiku has since proceeded to the Supreme Court in Nigeria to challenge Tinubu’s victory.
Over the weekend, the US district court for the northern district of Illinois ordered the Chicago CSU to release the academic records of Tinubu.
The development is coming after a U.S Judge, Nancy Maldonado, adopted all the ruling of Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Gilbert of the U.S. District Court.
Tinubu had objected to the Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Gilbert ruling ordering the immediate release of the academic records by the CSU
According to the President, releasing the documents with deposition would cause him severe harm because they were private to him and would not be admissible in the ongoing petition against him in Nigeria.
But Atiku filed another appeal, leading to the judge ordering that the documents be released within 48 hours.
“The Court overrules President Tinubu’s objections to Magistrate Judge Gilbert’s recommended ruling, and therefore adopts the ruling in full. Mr Abubakar’s application is therefore granted,” the judge ruled.
In a statement on Saturday night, CSU authenticates the certificate of President Tinubu while releasing his full academic records following a court order.
However, aside from academic records, there have been a series of controversies regarding the Nigerian leader’s gender.
Tinubu’s academic records released by CSU showed that the student ‘Bola A. Tinubu’ is a female.

However, in what looks like a contradiction, CSU noted in parts of the document that the same student ‘Bola Ahmed Tinubu’ is male. The varsity also, in certificates added to the 32-page document, addressed the student as ‘He’ as in Male.
