Following the judgement of Osun tribunal on Friday upturning the victory of Ademola Adeleke as governor of the state, angry residents have trooped out in hundreds to show thier grievances against the development in Osogbo.

The residents are currently showing solidary against the tribunal judgement on Friday, DAILY GIST reports.

According to the protesters who blocked Olaiya Bridge, they freely gave Senator Ademola Adeleke their votes and nothing shall take it back from him.

DAILY GIST reported that two out of the three-member panel of the tribunal held that the petitioner was able to prove that there was indeed over-voting in some of the polling units.

Reading the majority judgement, Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Tertsea Kume said the election was marred by over-voting. He thereby deducted the number of over-voting.

He says having deducted the over-voting figure, Oyetola scored 314,921 while Ademola gathered 290,266.

According to the tribunal the ground of the petition before it are three. They are that Adeleke was not qualified to contest based on his academic qualifications.

Others are the Adeleke was not elected by majority of the electorates and that the election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission was not in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Justice Kume held that the governorship election was not held in compliance with Nigeria’s Electoral Act.

The tribunal held that the governorship election was characterized by over-voting. It said after deducting the excessive votes, the figure Mr Oyetola polled at the election was 314, 921.

The tribunal, thus, ordered that Mr Oyetola should be returned as governor of Osun State.

Consequently, the majority judgment of the tribunal ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Adeleke and issue a fresh one to Oyetola as the duly elected governor of Osun.

Adeleke, in his reaction, described the judgement as “a miscarriage of justice” adding that it is “an unfair interpretation against the will of majority of voters”.

“I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done,” he added.

“Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate.”
