BREAKING: Canada Suspends Operations In Nigeria

Nigeria’s most preferred japa destination, Canada on Tuesday has suspended operations in Nigeria until further notice.

The development is coming following explosion that kill two persons at its embassy in Abuja, the country’s capital.

The fire broke out on Monday morning while workers were servicing generators, Nkechi Isa, spokeswoman for the State Emergency Management Agency said in Abuja.

“The two killed were Nigerian maintenance workers, she said.

“The fire occurred when the tank of diesel in the generator house containing 2,000 liters exploded,” Isa added

In a statement on its X handle, Canada’s High Commission in Nigeria said its investigating the fire incident.

The country has also joined the United States and the United Kingdom in issuing a travel advisory, discouraging nonessential travel to Nigeria.

DAILY GIST reported on Monday that the Canadian embassy was gutted by a fire that killed two persons and injured two others.

Melanie Joly, the foreign minister of Canada in a statement, expressed her condolences for the deaths.

She said: “We can confirm there was an explosion at our High Commission in Nigeria. The fire is out and we are working to shed light on what caused this situation.

I send my heartfelt condolences to the families of the 2 people killed in this tragedy.”

Also, Canada’s High Commission in Nigeria, said that it had “temporarily suspended operations until further notice.”
