The Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State chapter, Dr Monday Hassan, has been abducted

ASUU confirmed the abduction in a terse statement on Monday.

It described the security situation in the country as “unacceptable.”

A spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Ubah Ogaba, while confirming the incident added that the command had deployed security operatives to rescue the victims.

In his words, “The command is aware of the abduction in Shendam. Tactical teams have since been deployed to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators.”

It was gathered that the union chairman was kidnapped alongside a former governorship aspirant in Plateau State during the 2019 elections, Kemi Nshe.

It was further learnt that the gunmen invaded the house of the former gubernatorial aspirant who is also the former chairman of Shendam Local Government Area of the state on New Year eve and abducted him along with his guest, Dr Hassan.

According to reports, the gunmen gained access to his premises at about 9:45 p.m. on Friday and shot sporadically into the air to announce their arrival.

The attackers forced their way into the sitting room where Nshe was entertaining his guest and forced them into the waiting vehicle at gunpoint.

Eyewitness said before the family and others within the neighbourhood could raise an alarm, the gunmen had disappeared with their captives.
