Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State in the early hours of Thursday causing a palpable tension at the institution’s main campus.
According to some students on campus, the started hearing gunshots in front of the school gate at about some minutes to 12a.m.
It was alleged that one of the trading stalls in front of the school was also robbed, DAILY GIST has learnt.
One person was killed while two others have been kidnapped in the attack, it was gathered.
The institution’s Student Union President, Shuaib Isiaka Yahaya, however confirmed the incident on Thursday.
“There is a security challenge at the FUT Minna Gidan Kwano campus, we urge all our students to be in their respective lodges and stay calm.”
Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun also confirmed the incident in a statement made available to Journalists on Thursday.
He noted that the situation is under control.
He said “At about 2330hrs, some suspected hoodlums attacked a shop at Gidan-Kwano opposite FUT Gate and abducted two children of the shop owner.”
“Police/vigilante were immediately drafted to the scene for aggressive manhunt of the hoodlums and during stop and search, one of the suspect was intercepted and arrested at Barkuta village,” he said in a statement.
The attack is coming after suspected bandits attacked and abducted six persons at the senior staff quarters of the University of Abuja on November 2, 2021.
They were later rescued on the 5th of November through a joint operation coordinated by the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force
