The academic staff union of universities, ASUU on Monday have announced the extension of its nationwide strike.
DAILY GIST reliably gathered on Monday that the union extended the strike by two months
The decision was reached at it’s National Executive Council, NEC marathon meeting held at University of Abuja,UNIABUJA which started on Sunday.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to be announced officially by the ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke any time soon.
ASUU had commenced a warning nationwide strike on February 14th following what it called failure of the federal government to meet it’s demands and fulfill it’s promises, DAILY GIST reports.
Osodeke blamed the federal government for the ongoing strike, alleging that apart from not implementing the 2020 MOA, the government also failed to convene the regular implementation monitoring meeting as agreed.
He noted that calling off the industrial action depended entirely on the Federal Government as members were determined not to shift ground until their demands are met.
ASUU demands include the renegotiation of the ASUU/FG 2009 agreement, sustainability of the university autonomy by deploying the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) to replace the government’s “imposed” Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
The union has also demanded the release of the reports of visitation panels to federal universities and distortions in salary payment challenges.
