The All Progressives Congress, APC, has declared the recently concluded Edo State governorship primary election inconclusive.
The National Working Committee of the party stated that it will hold new election in the state on Thursday 22nd of February, 2024.
A decision to this effect was reached on Tuesday night at an emergency meeting of the NWC.
National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka disclosed this development after the NWC meeting that lasted for about three hours.
According to Morka, ” at it a emergency meeting, to consider the report on the Edo State primate election, the BWC of our parry deliberate on the report and resolved that the Edo State governorship election has not been completed and has now fixed Thursdag February 22nd 2024 for the completion of the APC Edo State Primary election process.”
Four of the 10 aspirants that contested are claiming victory.
DAILY GIST recalls that Governor Hope Uzodinma’s Primary Election Committee on Saturday declared Hon. Dennis Idahosa winner having polled 40,453 votes.
Senator Okpebholo on the other hand was announced winner by the Cheif Returning Officer, Dr. Stanley Ugboaja
While Hon. Dekeri was declared victorious by local government returning officers.
Durung the election, some persons suspected to be political thugs numbering over 100 stormed the venue of the second primary and disrupted the collation and announcement exercise.
The thugs beat up journalists covering the exercise and destroyed their cameras, warning that they don’t want to see anybody.
Journalists were however surprised that despite the presence of armed security personnel at the venue, the thugs were able to wreak havoc on them.
