In what’s coming as confusion, Senator Ademola Adeleke has been declared the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun after winning the primary election backed by the national working committee (NWC).

Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the returning officer and deputy governor of Bayelsa, said 1916 delegates took part in the exercise.

He said Adeleke polled 1887 votes to defeat his rival, Dotun Babayemi, who had no vote.

DAILY GIST reported that Dotun Babayemi won the parallel governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state.

PDP members in Osun held Governorship primary election of two different factions

The Olagunsoye Oyinlola-backed faction held its primary on Tuesday at the WIDCOF event centre in Osogbo.

The parallel primaries were held simultaneously at the Osun Township Stadium and WOCDIF event centre in Osogbo.

In the last couple of hours, some of the top contenders have pulled out of the race. Akin Ogunbiyi, Fatai Akinbade, Dele Adeleke, and Sanya Omirin have all withdrawn from participating in the primary.

This leaves Senator Ademola Adeleke and Dotun Babayemi in the race.

All aspirants who withdrew from the primary of the party including the nephew of Senator Ademola Adeleke – Deji Adeleke had declared support for Babayemi.

Former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola described the primary election at Osogbo Township Stadium which was recognized by PDP NWC as invalid.

Oyinlola dismissed the primary election exercise at the stadium saying it is not valid.

“He is the person who will make Osun better. He is Dotun Babayemi.

Those of us here are the ones following the law and order,”

However, at the Osogbo Township Stadium, the National Working Committee held another primary election.
