The national leader of all Progressive Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has taken a subtle swipe at the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, after emerging as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former Lagos governor was announced as the winner of the APC primary elections on Wednesday.
DAILY GIST reported that 2,322 delegates from 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) elected the flagbearer of the ruling party for the 2023 presidential election.
Tinubu got the highest votes 1271, his major opponents, the former Governor of Rivers State and the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo secured 316 and 235 votes respectively.
Senate President, Ahmed Lawan got 152 votes while the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello scored 47 votes, Ben Ayade with 37 votes
He said in his acceptance speech: “To you the legislature, Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, I would have been a little upset because you compete (sic) with me but that is over now, since you can easily lick your wound. It doesn’t take away from thanking you for the past cooperation, collaboration, and cool-headedness to build our country.
“You’ve helped to steer the ship of this nation in the right direction. And with your team in the Senate, history is written and it will be kind to you.”
