The Mastercard Foundation Scholars programme has announced a master’s degree scholarship in various courses at the University of Cambridge for Nigerians and other African countries.

In a statement obtained by DAILY GIST, the foundation said the scholarship offers African students the privilege to develop leadership skills that would contribute to the sustainability of the continent.

The scholarship offers fully funded training in different courses for students who are from Africa except for business courses such as master of business administration (MBA), master of corporate Law (MCL) and master of Finance (MFin).

“The programme at the University of Cambridge is designed to provide talented students from Africa with fully-funded opportunities to complete their master’s training, grow in transformative leadership, and contribute to climate resilience and sustainability in Africa and the world at large,” the statement reads.

“The programme offers scholarships which span the full range of across disciplines in Cambridge except for the following business courses: Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Corporate Law (MCL), Master of Finance (MFin).”

The foundation said students eligible for this scholarship must be citizens residing in an African country.

The applicants must also be applying for a master’s course of up to one year at the university.

According to the foundation, students can apply through the course directory which should be completed by the funding deadline of the course.

Applicants are advised to pay close attention to the deadline as each course has a funding-targeted date.

“As part of the application process, prospective scholars will be required to provide a supplementary statement that indicates their personal commitment to contributing to climate-resilient and sustainable futures for Africa,” the foundation added.

“The deadline for submitting applications for funding is the 5th of December 2023 for courses with a 5th of December deadline and the 5th of January 2024 for courses with a 5th of January deadline. When making an application, pay close attention to the funding deadline.”
