Popular human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi’s book “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System” is currently ranked as one of the ‘bestsellers’ on Amazon platform.

This followed massive demands from Nigerians who are eager to read about how legal luminary, Afe Babalola and other notable personalities were allegedly indicted as having corrupted the country’s judicial system.

Published on July 2, Farotimi examined how affluent Nigerians allegedly manipulated the country’s judicial system for their interests.

The book also topped Amazon’s charts in general elections, political process, and political commentary and opinion.

Customer reviews rated the book 4.9 out of five stars.

However, his description of the country’s legal landscape has become a subject matter in a law court.

According to report, Oxley Technologies reports that the book is currently being ranked as the 622 best seller on Amazon after the platform recorded massive sales from Nigerians.

“The winner in this debacle btwn Mr Farotimi & Babalola will be Uncle Dele. His book is currently ranked 622 in Amazon Bestseller rankings. This comes with massive amount of sells. They’ve ended up given the book the publicity that wasn’t intended. Uncle Dele’s smiling to the bank,” the platform wrote on X.

Another X user, Due Process Integrity Vanguard said: “Dele Farotimi’s book has skyrocketed to Amazon bestseller status—an incredible overnight success!”

A report also stated that bookstores across the country have started running out of stock of activist Dele Farotimi’s book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System, due to the rush in demand for details of Babalola was indicted.

Stores such as Tinu-Ade Bookshop in Ibadan and VIC Bookstore in Abuja told Peoples Gazette on Wednesday that the book had sold out since the arrest of Farotimi preoccupied national headlines.

Farotimi was arrested following a petition by Babalola (SAN).

On Wednesday, Farotimi was arraigned in a magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti state, for allegedly “criminally defaming” Afe Babalola, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), named in the book.

The activist pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

He was denied bail by the Ekiti State Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday and the trial court ordered that he should be remanded till December 10th, 2024.

The charge suit no: MAD/1,476.C/2024, pits the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police as the complainant against Farotimi as the defendant.

Samson Osun, the police prosecutor, asked the court to remand Farotimi pending further investigation.

Dayo Akeredolu, counsel to Farotimi, opposed the remand request and prayed the court to admit the activist on bail under liberal terms and self-recognition.

Akeredolu’s bail application was rejected.

Abayomi Adeosun, the magistrate, ruled that Farotimi be remanded in prison custody till December 10.
