A female student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, AAUA in Ondo State, Miss Adekunle Adebisi Ifeoluwa has been allegedly murdered.
Olubodun Sanni, a 21-year-old final-year student of the institution was reported to have killed the student over her iPhone XR
Adebisi was a 300-level student in the Department of Economics until her demise
Miss Adekunle was discovered dead on February 2nd, 2024, in the one-room apartment she rented outside campus.
According to the police, the suspect confessed that he was attracted to the victim by her phone and devised a means of becoming her friend.
The suspect confessed even before her parents that on that ill-fated day, he approached the victim to transfer some film from her telephone to his iPad.
”The unsuspecting female student obliged him but didn’t allow him into her room. She told the suspect that her telephone battery was low.
”The suspect them excused himself to come back later with his power bank to charge the victims telephone.
”The came back to the victim’s room very late and was allowed into the room where he grabbed the victim by the neck and stabbed her in the chest with a knife he brought along.
”The suspect then took the victim’s telephone, destroyed her SIM card and inserted his own SIM card.
”Police findings showed that he would make use of the phone during the day and hid it inside an uncompleted building close to the hostel.
Police detectives discovered that it was active and they traced the call chart to the mother of the suspect, who was subsequently arrested.
“The mother after interrogation, led police detectives to her son’s hostel where he was arrested.
Parading the suspected killer student, who is a Geology student of the institution, alongside other criminals, the state Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, said in Akure, that the suspect was arrested by the use of modern technology to traced her stolen phone by the suspect.
Oladipo said that “On 2nd of February, 2024, a case of suspected Murder was reported to the Police that One AdekunleAdebisiIfeoluwa ‘F’ aged 20yrs, a 300level student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko was found in a pool of blood at her off campus hostel and was rushed to the university health centre and later referred to a Specialist Hospital in Ikare Akoko where she was confirmed dead.
“In the course of investigation, the police discovered that the deceased phone was missing.
“The police through the use of modern technology traced the phone to one Olubodun Sanni ‘m’ aged 21yrs, a final year student of the same school who is also a neighbour to the deceased in the hostel.
Oladipo stated that “The recovered phone led to further questioning of the suspect who gave details of what happened in his confessional statement, how he entered the deceased room, stabbed her on the chest with knife and he stole her iPhone XR.
Abayomi added that Sanni would be charged to court at the end of the investigation.
