Amidst criticisms from some Nigerians, The two former Super eagles player, Jay-Jay Okocha and Kanu Nwankwo have explained the reasons for supporting the national leader of All progressive congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The duo speak at Tinubu’s Lagos home on Saturday during a meeting with the former Super Eagles players.
On Saturday, the former Super Eagles players met with Tinubu at his home, ahead of the novelty football match scheduled for Sunday at Onikan Stadium in Lagos State.
Kanu Nwakwo, Jay-Jay Okocha, Taribo West, and Victor Ikpeba were among the ex-internationals who visited Tinubu’s home and will be partaking in a novelty match to mark Tinubu’s 70th birthday.
The novelty match is expected to feature 17 former Nigerian internationals.
Kanu and other former players’ visit to Tinubu on Saturday had sparked reactions on social media.
Addressing the concerns, Kanu said, “People are talking, please pay attention. I’m not a politician, I’m a footballer and a proud one, I’m a legend. I know what is good and what is not good.
“22 years ago, Kanu heart Foundation was looking people to help us. We got only three governors. Ahmed Tinubu was one of them. He gave the Foundation money to start up. He supported us. And now, it’s his 70th birthday. Why not, we also have to come and support.”
Also, speaking, Okocha said Tinubu is the reason he and other players are comfortable in Lagos.
He said, “You are the reason I call Lagos home, you are the reason we are so comfortable in Lagos and for me, you are the leader of all leaders.
May the Almighty Lord continue to protect, guide, and meet you at the point of your needs; even though I don’t know if you still need something.
“But, whatever your desire is, the Lord will grant it, especially in good health.”
