Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has opened up on why he is fighting with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar and National Chairman Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
According to him, his anger stems from the failure of the duo to honour their agreements.
Wike said Ayu vowed to resign if the presidential candidate of the party emerged from the north for a southern to take over.
He said Atiku, after emerging victorious, visited him, solicited his support and promised that Ayu would resign in the spirit of the PDP’s Constitution.
Wike said it was unbelievable that Ayu and Atiku had failed to live up to their promises, insisting that the candidate and the party chairman can never come from the same zone without consequences.
Wike said the former vice president failed to fulfil the promise, leading to the current crisis rocking the party.
Wike who insisted that Iyorchia Ayu must step down as the chairman of the party said “This fight, we will fight it to the end”.
The Rivers Governor said the issue at hand is that of justice and fairness, stressing that having produced the presidential candidate of the party, the North should not also hold on to the chairmanship of the party.
The governor vowed that the resignation of Walid Jibril as the Board of Trustees BoT chairman will not stop his demand for Ayu’s removal.
