Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday visited former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), and held closed door meeting with his host at his hilltop residence, Minna, the Niger State capital.
Atiku Abubakar is the second 2023 presidential aspirant to visit IBB to solicit his support after former Lagos State governor and leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
It was gathered that the meeting may not be unconnected with the presidential ambition of the former vice president whom it was gathered is consulting widely against the popular belief that the South should produce successor to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Atiku Abubakar later paid courtesy visit on the Niger State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, to sympathise with the government and people of the state over incessant attacks and killings by combined forces of armed bandits, Boko-Haram and ISWAP.
Addressing Journalists, the former vice president said he was at the Niger State Government House on a courtesy visit to sympathise with the state government over prevailing security challenges facing it.
Atiku visited Governor Sani Bello, who had endorsed Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 presidency.
“I only came on a courtesy visit to the governor and to commiserate with him and people of the state over the incessant banditry in Niger state.”
“I just discussed with the governor on the insecurity in the state and from what I heard, it is a very serious and pathetic situation and it is most unfortunate.”
Asked about his presidential aspiration, Abubakar said: “I have only come on a visit, I will let you know about my presidential ambition at the appropriate time.”
Although Atiku. 75, is yet to declare for presidency, there are signs that he might join the race
One of his campaign groups headed by Chief Raymond Dokpesi, media mogul, had last week said Atiku would do a single term of four years if elected.
Recall that Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed had said though Atiku is qualified to be president, age is not on his side.
