The clamouring for the best out of many could not be overemphasized. In that regards, this article present the top best polytechnics in the country.

Before that, lets recall that in the earlier 2000’s tertiary institutions that wasn’t University was looked down upon. Jambites dreaded these polytechnics and colleges because of the general disregard the society had on them. Students who ended there were those who had struggled several years rewriting JAMB.

Well, lately the reverse has been the case as it’s even recorded that polytechnics has an upper hand as regards practical based learning more than the theory based University. And in that regards, the dimed light of most polytechnics and Colleges of Education seemed to be glowing more than ever.

In spite of this, for studying purposes, it is always right to know the best out of the numerous polytechnics (Federal, States and private) in the country to ensure good learning environment and maximum academic performance, hence the very purpose of this article.

According to the Webometrics ranking some of the best polytechnics in the country are also recognized among the best in Africa. And that’s a very big one!

Now, this ranking was based majorly on openness rank; impact rank, presence rank, and excellence rank. They are the most important standard used for the sake of this ranking to sieve the best out from the many other polytechnics in the country.

Here is the list of the top best polytechnics in Nigeria as of 2020.

1. Auchi Polytechnic: Auchi Polytechnic is a Federal Polytechnic in Auchi, Edo State, Nigeria. It was founded in 1963, first as a technical college which was a gift of the British government to the then Midwestern Region. It is one of the first four Polytechnics established in Nigeria enrolling over 10,000 students in business, technology, environmental and arts courses. It is popularly know as AuchiPoly.
it has consistently remained the first in Nigeria, in West Africa, and the second in the whole of Africa.

2. Yaba College of Technology: Formerly known as the Yaba Higher College. It was founded in 1932 in Yaba, Lagos in Nigeria for the purpose of providing tertiary education to Africans. It majors mostly in vocational subjects and teaching. It should be noted that as of then college at Yaba was mostly just for the males. It’s popular in Nigeria with the name Yaba Tech.

3. Federal Polytechnic Ilaro: this polytechnics happened to be established by Decree No.33 of July 25, 1979. It was later opened and available for all students as from November 15, 1979 on a temporary site provided by its host community, the ancient town of Ilaro, Ogun State. It remained this way until in 1983. At this time, it was moved over to a permanent site along Ilaro/Oja-Odan Road. Although the polytechnics is less popular, yet, it remains one of the best the country could boast of.

4. Federal Polytechnic Bauchi: this polytechnics came into existence as a result of the urgent need of the government to revolutionalize the society through technology and technical skills. It was built and established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in the 1979.

5. Lagos State Polytechnic:The Lagos State Polytechnics is a government-owned tertiary institution located in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The institution offers National Diploma and Higher National Diploma courses at undergraduate levels. It is popularly known as LASPOTECH. This Polytechnics is among the very first set of Polytechnics Nigeria ever had. It was established in 1977.

6. Polytechnic Ibadan: popular with the name, Poly Ibadan, polytechnics of Ibadan was founded in 1970. Just like other polytechnics it was founded solely for the purpose of providing higher learning to the citizens of the country.

7. Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta: Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, was the former Ogun State Polytechnic, in Abeokuta state. It was established in January in the year 1979. It is popularly known with the name MAPOLY.

8. Federal Polytechnic Ede: This Federal Polytechnic is one of the Nigerian tertiary institution that was established in 1992. It is located in Ede, a town in Osun State, southwestern Nigeria. It is a National Diploma awarding institution.

Federal Polytechnic Ede is also known to be one of the most popular polytechnic in Osun state.

9. Petroleum Training Institute Effurun: Petroleum Training Institute in Effurun, Delta State was rightly established in the year 1973 by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It was established as a requirement or as a prior condition for being a member in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. Hence the need to set up this Polytechnic in the country. As from it’s inception, the Polytechnic has worked on becoming the leading institution majorly on Oil and Gas technology in Africa.

10. Institute of Management Technology IMT Enugu: IMT is recorded as one of Nigeria too most Polytechnic. The Eastern located Polytechnic came into existence since 1973. This was made possible by the amalgamation of the then College of Technology and the Institute of Administration in Enugu. Currently the institution is on the verge of repositioning in a bid to reach for an even greater heights.
