The Nigerian government has listed 14 reasons for pegging new minimum wage at N60,000 for civil servants in the country.

The tripartite committee has been engaged in negotiations over a new minimum wage since its inauguration in January.

DAILY GIST recalls that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), failed to reach an agreement with the government on a new national minimum wage on Friday, May 31.

The organised labour, consequently declared a nationwide strike billed to commence on Monday, June 3rd, 2024.

The NLC and TUC cited the government’s failure to finalise the new minimum wage and its refusal to reverse the recent hike in electricity tariffs as the major reasons for the industrial action

NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC President Festus Osifo accused the government of being unserious in the negotiations, leaving labour with no other option but to initiate industrial action.
